Major government funding for on-ground works continues to come from the Natural Heritage Trust Envirofund, Second Generation Landcare, and our local Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.
In 2005 we have special State Government funds to plant 40,000 trees as part of a wider scheme to make the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne a CO2-neutral exercise. We were selected in part because we have a credible record of being able to deliver the goods every year, so thanks for helping us gain such a reputation.
We are honoured that the Norman Wettenhall Foundation has supported our project once again. This fifth grant helps greatly towards a coordinator salary to keep the on-ground works forging ahead strongly.
The Miller Foundation has also sought us out to offer financial support ‘for our worthy cause’. We thank them sincerely for looking us up.
The Bundaberg Rum Bush Fund provided a grant for water quality improvements through tree planting along local creeks. We have 3 landholders involved in 2005 and there is enough work on eroded streams to keep us occupied for years to come. We'll keep applying!
SPI Powernet provided funds for the third year in succession, to plant habitat under or near their high voltage powerlines. The ‘shrubs only’ planting restriction under power lines will provide dense nesting habitat for babblers and safe refuge for a whole range of smaller birds that are in decline.
Commonwealth Government Small Equipment Grants supplied funds to make the work of volunteers safer and easier. We purchased a chain saw for woody weed removal and ecological thinning trials, and a second lightweight ladder for nest box checking. Thanks to Wendy for her initiative in going for this one.
